The truth about interline cruise
rates....
Everybody has cruise deals.
Deals, schmiels! The secret to booking your cruise
deal isn't so secret. Big Tip..... don't pay service
charges that are tacked on by some agencies. Why?
Because you don't have to.
Second, there are
two ways to get good deals. 1) Book as far in
advance as possible. Then you not only get the
cruise you want with the destinations you want
but you can also get the cabin you want. The cruiselines
give nice discounts for knowing their cabins are
sold.
Or, if you can't book early, then 2) book as soon
as you see the deal you can't refuse. Don't wait,
the better the offer, the quicker it sells. Whether
it's 3 months, 3 weeks or 3 days out, good deals,
good cabins, good cruises sell out. If you take
too long to think about it you'll be disappointed.
Now, if you
are free as a bird and can non rev anywhere on
a moment's notice. If you don't mind taking the
last cabin on the ship, even if it is by the elevator,
then wait until the cruiseline needs you more
than you need it. Take one of those out the door
specials and you'll be bragging about what you
paid for that cruise for a long, long time.
See a date,
grab a rate!
Word is that the cruiselines
are concerned about current trends, higher occupancy
but lower revenues. Read

Small Reductions on Big
Ships?
That's the way the cruise
lines would like it to be. But despite some ingenious
ways of reducing client costs, it seems unlikely
that they will succeed at accomplishing this.
All reports to date for 2009 have bookings up
but revenues down. According to Ryan Wahlstrom
at Cruise Market Watch, this year is forecast
to see a 2.9% increase in the number of cruise
passengers but a 9.5% fall in fare revenue.
It is against this background that Richard Fain,
Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean, said last
week "We will accept slightly lower occupancy
levels in order to keep pricing up and to maximize
yields."
In the past we might have
waited to see if last minute rates would be the
best deal, this year the early bird will catch
the worm.
European River Cruising up 800% over the last
10 years.
Studies show this is Americans
favorite way of touring Europe. Pack and unpack
only once, for one price. What a deal! But book
early. Spring deals for European sailings are
the best. Get them before they're gone!
